About the Project

Barnet Council and Middlesex University have a shared ambition of the Burroughs in Hendon becoming the heart of education in a thriving Barnet.

Led by Barnet Council, this innovative and exciting proposal will integrate new academic and civic spaces along The Burroughs in Hendon and other nearby sites.

Working in partnership with Middlesex University and other key stakeholders, such as the Barnet Library Service, this project will create a place that everyone can be proud of and which will deliver significant new investment into this area. It will dramatically improve the look and feel of The Burroughs, creating a pleasant environment that is accessible and able to be used by everyone in Hendon.

State of the art new modern library

A brand-new state of the art library offering 100 sqm of multi- use community space.

Proposals for a new library on the Ravensfield and Fenella site if approved will see the current public library facility relocated to the opposite side of the street. The new library building will also comprise of a new Arts and Creative facility, a Safer Neighbourhood Team unit, community and retail floorspace and new key worker and student accommodation.

There are proposals for the existing library to remain open to the public with the potential of a new community café accessible to all.

A modern space for the pet hospital, PDSA

The PDSA Pet Hospital will be relocated to a newly designed purpose-built building nearby keeping the PDSA at the heart of the local community.

Green spaces and landscaping

Greener and improved landscaping will connect the local people to innovative play spaces, public spaces and outdoor play spaces, connecting communities from the Prince of Wales estate to sites along The Burroughs.

Health and Well-being facilities

New health and well-being facilities to ensure that those that need it most are able to remain health and happy for as long as possible.

Community Safety Team Office

A new home for the local Community Safety Team in Hendon who will continue to maintain a safe neighbourhood for people to live, work and visit.
