About Hendon Hub

Barnet Council and Middlesex University have an exciting, shared ambition of the Burroughs in Hendon becoming the heart of education in a thriving Barnet.

Led by Barnet Council, Hendon Hub will integrate new academic and civic spaces along The Burroughs in Hendon and other nearby sites.

Working in partnership with Middlesex University and other key stakeholders including the Barnet Library Service, this project will significantly improve the look and feel of The Burroughs, creating a pleasant environment that is safer, greener and more accessible. Local charities will have new and improved spaces in modern buildings; the Meritage Centre community hall is also being re-provided for all; the entire library will be for community use and there will be new retail units

The Library

The previous plans looked to provide a brand-new state of the art library offering 100 sqm of multi- use community space. The proposals were for a new library on the Ravensfield and Fenella site, with the current public library facility relocated to the opposite side of the street.

However, following engagement with residents and stakeholder groups, the council has decided to keep the Library Services within the listed library building, subject to planning amendments being approved. The plan is to refurbish the building, whilst preserving its heritage features such as the iconic central staircase and the glazed ceilings of the upper reading rooms.

A modern space for the pet hospital, PDSA

The PDSA Pet Hospital will be relocated to a newly designed purpose-built building nearby keeping the PDSA at the heart of the local community, as per the feedback received during the consultation.

Green spaces and landscaping

Greener and improved landscaping will connect local people to innovative play spaces and outdoor public spaces, linking communities from the Prince of Wales estate to sites along The Burroughs.

Health and Well-being facilities

New health and wellbeing facilities to ensure that those that need it most are able to remain in good health and happy.

Community Safety Team Office

A new home for the local Community Safety Team in Hendon who will continue to maintain a safe neighbourhood for people.
